Impact of vaccines on antimicrobial resistance

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a significant public health threat, yet vaccines’ role in combating it remains underutilized. A multidisciplinary workshop by the Microbiology Society in February 2025 highlighted the need for vaccine-mediated AMR reduction, strengthened evidence base, and policy-regulatory barriers. Participants called for AMR impact recognition in vaccine labeling and national immunization strategies, and increased vaccine integration into action plans.
